CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS

allowing graduates from post-secondary institutions

The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents

The CEC was created in 2008, allowing graduates from post-secondary institutions and temporary foreign workers (TFWs) with Canadian experience to transition to permanent resident status. The CEC is another prescribed class of persons who are selected on their basis of ability to be economically established in Canada. Basically, it is through their Canadian experience that they may qualify for permanent residency. ( Applicants intended to live in Quebec would for direct to that province’s Quebec Experience Program) apply for Quebec Experience Program). International students who are graduates of a Canadian post-secondary institution and who possess professional, managerial, or skilled Canadian work experience may apply for PR under CEC. Certain TFWs may also apply for permanent residency through this program.

To qualify for PR, TFWs must meet the criteria set out in Immigration Act regulations:

Work experience:

  • at least 12 months of full-time work (or an equal amount in part-time work);
  • in one or more occupations listed in skill type 0 or Skill level A or B of the NOCs matrix;
  • within the past 36 months; and must include the actions performed as described in the lead statement of the NOCs matrix; and

while engaged in full-time study, self-employed, or unauthorized work, can not be counted as a period of work experience; only work experience as a temporary resident can be counted

  • Language requirements:
    • Meet the minimum requirement according to the applicant’s skill level: CLB 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs, or CLB 5 for NOC B jobs.
  • Education
    • There is no education requirement for the Canadian Experience Class.
  • Admissibility
    • You must not be inadmissible to Canada.

Generally these to streams qualify under Canadian Experience Class.

**NOTE**
If you are awaiting a decision on your CEC application and your post-graduation work permit is about to expire, you may be able to apply for a bridging open work permit. Bridging open work permits allow qualified applicants whose work permits are about to expire to keep working while they wait for a final decision on their permanent residence Application.
